Diversity Policy

Table of Contents

Introduction

Sizzle Social serves creators, businesses, entrepreneurs, agencies, professionals and everyday internet users from different backgrounds, communities and experiences.

We believe that a digital platform serving a broad audience should approach its people, content, customers and business relationships with fairness, respect and an openness to different perspectives.

This Diversity Policy explains how Sizzle Social approaches diversity, inclusion, equal opportunity and representation across our operations.

Sizzle Social is operated under Sizzle Digital Technologies.

Our Commitment

Sizzle Social aims to maintain an environment in which people are treated fairly and respectfully regardless of background.

We believe diversity can strengthen:

  • decision-making;

  • creativity;

  • problem-solving;

  • product development;

  • communication;

  • customer understanding;

  • editorial perspective; and

  • our ability to serve a broad digital audience.

Our approach is based on meaningful inclusion rather than treating diversity solely as a numerical or promotional exercise.

What Diversity Means to Us

Different Backgrounds and Experiences

Diversity can take many forms.

It may include differences relating to:

  • gender;

  • age;

  • ethnicity;

  • nationality;

  • culture;

  • religion or belief;

  • disability;

  • socioeconomic background;

  • education;

  • professional experience;

  • geographic location;

  • language;

  • skills;

  • perspectives; and

  • life experience.

This list is not intended to define or limit every form of diversity that may be relevant.

Diversity of Thought

People with similar demographic characteristics may still hold very different experiences, ideas and approaches.

We therefore also value diversity of:

  • thought;

  • professional discipline;

  • problem-solving style;

  • creative approach;

  • technical expertise;

  • business experience; and

  • perspective.

Diversity should allow people to contribute meaningful differences rather than require everyone to think alike.

Equal Opportunity

Fair Access to Opportunities

Where Sizzle Social or Sizzle Digital Technologies recruits employees, contractors, interns or other team members, we aim to assess people according to factors relevant to the opportunity.

These may include:

  • ability;

  • experience;

  • qualifications;

  • skills;

  • potential;

  • performance;

  • reliability;

  • professional conduct; and

  • suitability for the role.

Decisions should not be based on irrelevant prejudice or unlawful discrimination.

No Guaranteed Outcome

Equal opportunity does not mean that every applicant or team member will receive the same outcome.

Different decisions may reasonably result from differences in:

  • qualifications;

  • experience;

  • performance;

  • role requirements;

  • availability;

  • business needs; or

  • other legitimate factors.

The principle is that relevant opportunities should be considered fairly.

Recruitment and Hiring

Inclusive Recruitment

Where practicable, recruitment processes should allow qualified candidates from different backgrounds to compete fairly.

We aim to avoid unnecessary requirements that exclude otherwise capable candidates without a legitimate business reason.

Merit and Potential

Hiring decisions may consider both demonstrated experience and reasonable potential.

This is particularly relevant for:

  • internships;

  • junior roles;

  • entry-level positions;

  • training opportunities; and

  • developing professionals.

A lack of access to a particular traditional career path should not automatically prevent consideration where a candidate can otherwise demonstrate relevant ability.

Remote and Geographic Inclusion

Talent Beyond One Location

Technology allows many roles to be performed beyond a single physical office.

Where a role can reasonably be performed remotely or through a distributed arrangement, geographic location need not automatically prevent a qualified person from being considered.

The actual working arrangement remains dependent upon:

  • role requirements;

  • operational needs;

  • legal considerations;

  • time-zone requirements;

  • security;

  • access to necessary working tools; and

  • other legitimate factors.

Workplace Inclusion

Respectful Working Environment

People working with Sizzle Social should be able to contribute without unnecessary hostility, harassment or degrading treatment.

We aim to encourage a working environment based on:

  • professionalism;

  • respect;

  • collaboration;

  • constructive disagreement;

  • learning;

  • accountability; and

  • fair treatment.

Different Perspectives

Team members should be able to express reasonable professional disagreement without being excluded merely because their approach differs from the majority view.

Constructive disagreement can improve decisions where it remains respectful and relevant to the work.

Harassment and Discrimination

Unacceptable Conduct

Sizzle Social does not support harassment, bullying or unlawful discrimination within its working relationships.

Concerns may include conduct such as:

  • degrading treatment;

  • discriminatory insults;

  • repeated targeted harassment;

  • intimidation;

  • exclusion based solely on irrelevant prejudice; or

  • another form of inappropriate discriminatory conduct.

Fair Investigation

An allegation should be considered seriously but should not automatically be treated as proven merely because it has been made.

Where appropriate, concerns should be reviewed fairly, confidentially where reasonably possible, and with consideration of available evidence.

Accessibility and Disability

Reasonable Inclusion

We recognise that disability and accessibility needs may affect how people interact with:

  • recruitment processes;

  • workplace systems;

  • digital products;

  • communications; and

  • Sizzle Social content.

Where reasonably practicable, we aim to consider appropriate accessibility needs and improvements.

Digital Accessibility

Accessibility also applies to the Platform and content we publish.

As Sizzle Social develops, accessibility considerations may inform improvements to areas such as:

  • readability;

  • navigation;

  • content structure;

  • visual presentation;

  • forms;

  • customer support; and

  • other digital experiences.

Diversity in Our Content

Representation

Sizzle Social publishes content for a broad audience.

Where people and communities are represented in our editorial, marketing and visual content, we aim to avoid unnecessary stereotypes or degrading portrayals.

Representation should be relevant and natural rather than inserted solely to create the appearance of diversity.

Nigerian Context

Sizzle Social is a Nigerian-focused digital platform.

Our content should therefore reflect the diversity of people, businesses, creators and digital experiences that exist within Nigeria while remaining useful to our wider audience.

Broader Perspectives

Where a subject benefits from different perspectives, our content may draw from:

  • creators;

  • entrepreneurs;

  • businesses;

  • marketers;

  • technology professionals;

  • consumers;

  • different regions;

  • different industries; and

  • other relevant communities.

Not every article will contain every perspective.

The goal is to avoid treating one narrow experience as though it automatically represents everyone.

Editorial Independence and Diversity

Diversity Does Not Require Artificial Conclusions

Our commitment to diversity does not require us to manufacture disagreement where reliable evidence strongly supports a particular factual conclusion.

Likewise, presenting multiple perspectives does not require presenting unsupported claims as equivalent to well-supported evidence.

Editorial diversity should broaden understanding while preserving factual accuracy.

Our wider editorial standards are set out in the Publishing Principles.

Diversity in Images and Visual Content

Authentic Representation

Where people appear in Sizzle Social imagery, illustrations or other visual content, we aim for representation that feels appropriate to the subject and audience.

We seek to avoid relying exclusively on imagery that presents one narrow demographic as representative of everyone using digital technology, social media or business services.

No Tokenism

Diverse representation should not reduce people to visual tokens.

Where diversity is reflected in imagery, it should remain consistent with the actual context and purpose of the content.

Customers and Platform Users

Fair Treatment

Sizzle Social Services are intended to be available according to legitimate Platform requirements rather than irrelevant personal prejudice.

Customer decisions may reasonably differ because of factors such as:

  • fraud risk;

  • payment status;

  • Service eligibility;

  • Account activity;

  • legal restrictions;

  • security;

  • geographic Service availability;

  • regulatory obligations; or

  • violations of Platform rules.

Different treatment based on legitimate operational factors is not inconsistent with this Policy.

Respectful Support

Customer support should be delivered professionally regardless of a customer’s background.

Likewise, Users remain subject to the Acceptable Use Policy, including applicable rules concerning harassment, threats and abusive conduct.

Suppliers, Contractors and Partners

External Relationships

Our diversity principles may also inform how we work with:

  • contractors;

  • freelancers;

  • agencies;

  • suppliers;

  • consultants; and

  • other commercial partners.

Selection should primarily reflect relevant business considerations such as:

  • competence;

  • quality;

  • reliability;

  • pricing;

  • security;

  • compliance;

  • availability; and

  • suitability for the work.

Diversity considerations should not require Sizzle Social to select a provider that does not meet legitimate operational requirements.

Leadership and Decision-Making

Inclusive Decision-Making

Where appropriate, significant decisions may benefit from input from people with different professional responsibilities or perspectives.

A technical decision, for example, may benefit from considering not only engineering but also:

  • customer experience;

  • security;

  • business operations;

  • accessibility;

  • compliance;

  • content; or

  • support considerations.

Inclusive decision-making does not mean that every decision requires consensus.

Diversity and Ethics

Our approach to diversity forms part of our broader commitment to ethical business conduct.

The Sizzle Social Ethics Policy sets out principles relating to:

  • fairness;

  • respect;

  • accountability;

  • transparency;

  • professional conduct;

  • responsible marketing;

  • privacy; and

  • non-retaliation.

Reporting Concerns

Raising a Diversity or Inclusion Concern

A person who believes they have experienced inappropriate discriminatory or exclusionary conduct involving Sizzle Social may raise the concern through an appropriate official channel.

Email: contact@sizzlesocial.ng

Support Portal: https://sizzlesocial.ng/contact/ticket/

Where possible, the report should contain enough information for the issue to be understood and reviewed.

Good-Faith Reports

A person should not be retaliated against solely for raising a genuine diversity, discrimination or inclusion concern in good faith.

Knowingly false or malicious allegations may nevertheless be addressed appropriately.

Feedback and Improvement

Listening to Different Experiences

Our understanding of inclusion may improve through feedback from people who interact with Sizzle Social.

Feedback may identify:

  • accessibility barriers;

  • unintentional stereotypes;

  • exclusionary wording;

  • recruitment barriers;

  • Platform usability problems;

  • representation concerns; or

  • another issue we had not previously recognised.

Relevant feedback will be considered in accordance with the Actionable Feedback Policy.

Diversity Data

Separate Staffing Information

Where Sizzle Social publishes information about the composition of its workforce or contributors, that information should be distinguished from the commitments contained in this Policy.

Our separate Diversity Staffing Report is intended to provide available information about staffing representation and the limitations of that data.

The report is available at:

https://sizzlesocial.ng/legal/diversity-staffing-report/

No Invented Representation Claims

We do not consider it appropriate to publish invented, estimated or unsupported workforce diversity statistics merely to present a particular image of the organisation.

Where staffing data is published, it should reflect information that can reasonably be supported.

Privacy of Diversity Information

Sensitive Personal Information

Certain diversity information may concern private or sensitive aspects of an individual’s identity.

Sizzle Social should not collect, publish or infer such information merely for the purpose of producing diversity statistics where there is no appropriate basis for doing so.

Any personal data processed for diversity or employment purposes remains subject to applicable privacy requirements and the Privacy Policy.

Measuring Progress

Beyond Headcount

Diversity and inclusion cannot always be measured by workforce percentages alone.

Other indicators may include:

  • fairness of recruitment;

  • access to opportunities;

  • workplace experience;

  • accessibility;

  • retention;

  • ability to contribute;

  • professional development;

  • representation in content; and

  • responsiveness to legitimate concerns.

Where measurable staffing information is available, it may be reported separately rather than being used as the sole measure of inclusion.

Responsibility

Responsibility for applying these principles ultimately rests with Sizzle Digital Technologies as the operator of Sizzle Social.

Managers, team members, contractors and other persons acting on behalf of Sizzle Social should consider these principles where relevant to their responsibilities.

Diversity and inclusion should not be treated as the responsibility of only one person or department.

Changes to This Policy

This Policy may evolve as:

  • Sizzle Social grows;

  • the workforce changes;

  • Platform operations expand;

  • our audience develops;

  • accessibility standards improve;

  • laws and expectations change; and

  • we learn from feedback and experience.

Our Commitment

Sizzle Social’s approach to diversity is based on a simple principle: people should have a fair opportunity to contribute, participate and be treated with respect without irrelevant prejudice determining their experience.

We aim to build a Platform, workplace and publishing operation that benefits from different skills, backgrounds and perspectives while continuing to make decisions based on legitimate standards, evidence and business requirements.

Diversity is not about making every person, role or viewpoint identical. It is about creating enough fairness and openness for meaningful differences to be represented, heard and valued.
